Fall Front Porch with a Color Wheel Twist

Leaves changing colors and dancing to the ground is a stunning signal to start styling your front porch. If you are opting for subtle, yet impactful changes to make to your home; you are in the right place. Today I will be sharing three simple tips to boost your curb appeal with a color wheel twist on traditional fall front porch decor.

I must admit that I got lost somewhere between the spring and fall. When I started planning my outdoor decorating projects for the upcoming holiday season, I noticed that my springtime grapevine wreath accented with a lavender bow still graced our front door. Although the wreath was still stunning, it had certainly done its due diligence for our home.

It was time for a change.

Although the fall color palette is very striking; I decided to infuse nontraditional colors for the season (sage green, black, white and gray) for the decor used on our front porch. Which brings me to tip number one; don’t be afraid to think outside of the fall color wheel.

With this tip in mind, we started with a fresh coat of paint on the front door. The Behr Marquee line is the perfect paint for outdoors as it offers excellent resistance dirt and fading. This shade of gray, Dovetail to be exact, complimented the brick on our home and our new doormat exquisitely.

Next, we updated our door wreath and accented it with a buffalo check bow and doormat.

These stackable topiary pumpkins from The Home Depot were the perfect fit for our small space. They added the elements that were omitted without overcrowding the area.

I am an advocate of both DIYing and MIYing (make it your own) and this small project was the perfect example of a MIY. The ivory and green pumpkins blended with their new habitat immediately; however, I decided to do a quick makeover on the vintage orange base using a weathered steel spray paint. The results were stunning, and you can certainly achieve the same with this tip: Don’t be afraid to make it your own!

Once it dried, I stacked the pumpkins on top of an existing planter. For the opposite side, I incorporated faux and fresh pumpkins, mums and an old sign I had to mix things up a bit. Since I was taking a nontraditional approach to my front door fall decor, I carried that theme throughout the entire styling process. This also brings me to my third and final tip; don’t be afraid to color outside the lines. Albert Einstein once said, “You have to color outside the lines once in a while if you want to make your life a masterpiece.”

Masterpieces are made outside of the lines; when you are designing listen to your heart. When it feels right; it is right. And most of all have fun, whether your decor is traditional or non-traditional; there is no wrong way to express your style.
