You work hard on your lawn and landscaping during the spring and summer. Now it’s fall, and time to get ready for winter. You know the drill – move houseplants indoors, make sure your plants are well-watered before the ground freezes, clean up the beds and remove annuals, cut back perennials, put down mulch.
But when winter actually gets here, what can you do to keep your landscaping healthy and attractive when the wind is howling, the ground is frozen, and snow and ice blanket your lawn and garden?

When keeping a pristine cut and manicured lawn, it is important to have the right tools. Since there are over a hundred different models of lawn mowers on the market today, we have compiled a top 5 list of the best lawn mowers on the market based on price and features.
5. Ariens Wide Area Walk 34: This lawn mower is perfect for bigger lawns with its large cutting deck that measures 34”. One negative aspect of this lawn mower is the lack of an integrated bagging system, which will leave your grass clippings spread out across your yard. This model also cost much more than the others on this list with an MSRP of $1,399.
4. Worx Pacesetter WG789: This lawn mower is powered by an electric motor that will allow horticulturalists to mow their lawns without impacting the environment. The Worx has a smaller cutting deck measuring 19”, but does have an integrated bagging system and a moderate price of $500.
3. John Deere JS46: The John Deere has a feature that few other lawn mowers have, cruise control. Similar to that of a car, cruise control on mowers allows you to set the speed of the mower and will run without always having your hands on the mowers to control speed. This feature coupled with a moderate price at $499 and a cutting deck that measures 22”, pushed the John Deere to third on our list.
2. Husqvarna XT722FE: This model has the standard features of many of these mowers on our top list (22” cutting deck, electric start, and integrated bagging), but has a much lower MSRP at $320.
1. Honda HRX217HM: This model was our clear favorite for our number one spot because of its blade break clutch (allows the user to stop the blades without stopping the engine), leaf shredder features (shreds leafs as they enter the bag to conserve room so you have to empty the bag less frequently), and reasonable price at $899.
When put in a side by side comparison, each of these mowers has key features that separate them from all other lawn mowers, so be sure to do your research before you buy in order to find the best lawn mower for your needs.
