A few weeks ago I wrote a blog post about preparing your home for the fall and winter. This post talked about cleaning out your gutters and draining pipes and hoses that may freeze in the winter. Now that your home is ready for winter on the outside lets talk about the inside.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the crisp mornings and falling leaves, I love drinking hot cider and wearing sweaters, and most of all I love fall decor.
Here are a few ideas to bring fall inside this year.
1) Centerpieces
Easily transform your space with fall centerpieces. Bouquets in oranges and reds help to highlight the season. Simple pieces such as gourds or tree branches displayed on the table bring an earthy feel inside as well. For more centerpiece examples and ideas click here.
2) Scent
Autumn scents of apple, pumpkin, cinnamon, and other spices warm the heart just as much as they warm the home. To make your home smell like fall try one of these ideas:
- Dried potpourri: Potpourri is great because not only can you customize your scents by mixing your own spices, you can also arrange the components however you want and use them as decorations. They are also much safer than candles because there is no risk of anything catching fire. For ideas on how to make your own potpourri click here.
- Candles: Many people choose to burn candles that reflect the season. Apple or pumpkin are a couple common ones. Now take it a step further. Burn a mixture of candles to create your own fall scents. I like to burn a pumpkin spice and vanilla candle next to each other for my own pumpkin pie with vanilla ice-cream signature scent.
3) Make it cozy
Bring out the blankets and pillows. Swap out your bright colored throw pillows for darker colors. Deep reds, blues, greens, or browns make great accent colors. Embrace lamps and light dimmers to create relaxing mood lighting.
Happy Fall!
