Kevin O’Gara from Thou Swell recently transformed his Dad’s kitchen with the help of new KitchenAid appliances. Check out how his reveal came out below!
Gorgeous Gray Kitchen Makeover With KitchenAid
I’ve redesigned pretty much every room in my dad’s house – except for for the kitchen. I was more hesitant to tackle this room since his house is a rental and we can’t make any permanent changes or do a full demo of the space. With a few careful changes, however, I was able to completely update the kitchen and welcome two beautiful new KitchenAid appliances to upgrade both the style and functionality of the space. From the backsplash to the new appliances, I got a lot of bang out of the new design!
The KitchenAid appliances were the highlight of the whole makeover. From plain white appliances to shiny stainless steel, the modern look and feel, the new range and dishwasher already made a huge difference in the space.
The new range has a lot of great features, like convection cooking, which we’ve never had before. It will be fun to explore the possibilities when it comes to this type of baking. Plus there’s an EasyConvect Conversion that will automatically convert conventional recipes into convection settings. The range includes a warming drawer and intuitive electronic controls to which are pretty standard, but definitely an upgrade from our old range. The AquaLift feature also cleans the oven without any odors at a low temperature, so we won’t have to worry about baked-on spills at all!
The dishwasher has already made a huge difference in the kitchen – really the whole house – because it’s super quiet. I was amazed at how soft the sound was while running! It also includes great features inside like a third rack for easy placement of spatulas and measuring cups. Plus it includes a lot of innovative features to get dishes cleaner, faster. I can definitely tell a difference in both the cleanliness and the speed of the wash cycles.
Final Design Details
The final design details made our new appliances feel right at home with a more polished look. I added classic nickel Soho cabinet pulls to upgrade the look of our cabinetry and reflect the more traditional architecture of my dad’s historic bungalow. I used my favorite peel-and-stick tiles for a removable backsplash that was quick and easy to install. The dark grey subway-style tiles brought a lot of interest to the kitchen wall and helped define the area. Plus, occasionally we’ll get a splash or spill on the wall and now it will wipe right off!
The space wouldn’t be complete without some fresh greenery, so I brought in a fern and slate planter behind the sink. It added so much life to the corner and helped finish off the room. My dad’s already broken in his new appliances cooking up some elaborate meals, and I’ve definitely enjoyed spending time in his new kitchen with him (and enjoying the delicious meals)!
