There are several different materials that your items could be made from, and they each have their positives and negatives. Metal<\/b><\/p>\n

Sturdy and modern, metal is a good choice if you\u2019re on a budget. You\u2019ll generally find that metal framed furniture is a lot less expensive than other types, and you can pick up a full dining set for a very reasonable price. The downside to metal is that it can rust, especially if you live near the sea, and can look shabby quite quickly. There are exceptions of course, some furniture is made to a very high standard, but the lower priced options will realistically last only a season unless you keep them well covered and dry. Wooden furniture is generally more expensive than metal, often because it is heavier and made to a higher standard. There are some very beautiful sets out there to choose from, so if you\u2019re looking for real luxury, this might be the choice for you. And as far as maintenance goes, wood is usually OK, because it can easily be cleaned even after being exposed to the elements. You can also re-apply paint and varnish<\/a> to keep it looking in great condition. The downside being that wood is more vulnerable to breakage in the wind.<\/p>\n

Rattan<\/b><\/p>\n

Essentially, it\u2019s a type of palm tree that is weaved into a shape. The result is very beautiful furniture that\u2019s also durable. As it\u2019s got a slight flex, it\u2019s less vulnerable to damage than wood, and is waterproof so can stand up to the elements. It\u2019s still a good idea to keep it covered or stored away where possible.
