Hannah Hathaway here! I&#8217;m an artist &amp; farmhouse decor loving girl. My husband and I purchased a major fixer upper earlier this year, and have been spending all our free time renovating it into the house of our dreams.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114478\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/aa6c4e0b668cf3029c38bb8dc2c19ee3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have three little ones, and I just couldn&#8217;t wait all year to decorate our home for Christmas. I want to give them beautiful memories of a magical Christmas this year! The theme I was going for in our farmhouse kitchen, was a &#8220;winter wonderland&#8221; feel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114479\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/b239b12238ec819f3a52ccba7c6c672e.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1125\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I am a very minimalistic person (or at least I aim to be!) So I wanted to go for more a simple, but cozy vintage look this year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114480\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/b9554069bfda221761ecfa238fb1473e.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1125\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite DIY&#8217;s for this space is this wreath letter board I built. You can see all the details <a href=\"https:\/\/welivedhappilyeverafter.com\/how-to-make-an-oversized-letter-board-wall-diy-giant-holiday-wreath\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But in a nutshell here are the steps to make your own:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cut some 1&#215;2&#8217;s into strips (mine were 3 feet long)<\/li>\n<li>Run the top side of the &#8220;shelves&#8221; across a table saw on a low setting to create a &#8220;ridge&#8221; for the letters to sit on.<\/li>\n<li>I secured them to my wall by nailing into the drywall in-between our planks of &#8220;shiplap.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><em>Optional<\/em>: Use some greenery (I used a mix of real and faux) to create a wreath around the letter board shelves. I added some of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/p\/36-in-Artificial-Rustic-Spruce-Branch-5-Pack-30297HO\/305696598?cm_mmc=socialmedia%7Capronblog%7CD59%7C000000%7CHannahHathaway%7C114476\" rel=\"nofollow\">THESE<\/a> branches from Home Depot to give it a forest flair! I secured the wreath to the wall the same way as I did the letter board- just nails in the wall.<\/li>\n<li>Go to a craft store and get some light box letters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And there you have it! Super simple &amp; gorgeous!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114481\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/95d5cfeb63c91646806452e20f4de2a6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1125\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s talk about the star of the show: This gorgeous flocked Blue Spruce. You can find it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/p\/7-5-ft-Feel-Real-Snowy-Imperial-Blue-Spruce-Hinged-Artificial-Tree-with-LED-Lights-PEISB3-W09-75\/305035450?cm_mmc=socialmedia%7Capronblog%7CD59%7C000000%7CHannahHathaway%7C114476\" rel=\"nofollow\">HERE<\/a> on Home Depot&#8217;s website. Let&#8217;s just say that it was love at first sight! I&#8217;m a sucker for the real deal, but with this tree you can&#8217;t even tell that it isn&#8217;t fresh from the forest. And it&#8217;s pre-lit with some gorgeous warm white lights, which is amazing.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of using store bought decorations, my kids and I made some gingerbread ornaments &amp; strung fresh berries on the branches of our tree. I also made a simple watercolor garland of letters spelling out &#8220;Walking In A Winter Wonderland&#8221; to go with the lyrics on my letter board.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114482\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/8bbf9aa4a866d1d96e42cb81164c42ef.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Simple handmade touches make Christmas feel more cozy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114483\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/7b98501f9b96b5406ee749d07aed4f43.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These pallet gingerbread houses brought a touch of rustic to my table this year. You can see that tutorial <a href=\"https:\/\/welivedhappilyeverafter.com\/diy-pallet-ginger-bread-houses\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">HERE<\/a>. I used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/p\/Meilo-50-ft-Integrated-LED-Soft-White-Micro-String-Light-with-Silver-Wire-SL50-S-SW\/302325300?cm_mmc=socialmedia%7Capronblog%7CD59%7C000000%7CHannahHathaway%7C114476\" rel=\"nofollow\">copper twinkle lights<\/a> to bring a whimsical sparkle to the tablescape.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114484\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/6de2ce64faddb5698148ddfa72e991c7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1125\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One note about the gingerbread ornaments- they were hand cut (no cookie cutters), and I used paint for the frosting since we aren&#8217;t eating them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114485\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/9253f40d204f97fa4da1fc6bd1842182.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1125\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I honestly think that I will probably keep this letter board wreath up all year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114486\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/0ba5a3910cacec360e025b2004c78694.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I was styling the rest of my kitchen, I tried to stay with creams and rustic browns. And I couldn&#8217;t resist putting my &#8220;Better Not Pout&#8221; free printable (<a href=\"https:\/\/welivedhappilyeverafter.com\/better-not-pout-free-christmas-holiday-printable\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">HERE<\/a>) up in my pallet hutch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114487\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/64ed8e542957f3e57390a4360e7321b7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1125\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite parts about this letter board is that it is totally customizable. So we totally made some old truck gingerbread ornaments for the tree as well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-114492\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/330d6ec44651808565149e29daf1133a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The rest of the kitchen space I kept minimal &amp; simple (which makes it easier to keep clean!
