Adding Curb Appeal to a 100-Year-Old Home Remodel<\/h2>\n

When we bought this home in Waco, Texas last year, we knew it was going to be a big remodel project. We bought it to use as a short-term rental and there wasn\u2019t a surface that didn\u2019t need repair (or replacement). I am so happy it is finally coming together. We were thrilled to partner with The Home Depot to show how you can create awesome curb appeal to your home.<\/p>\n

The Before Photo<\/h3>\n

This is what our home looked like on the day we bought it. The foundation, roof, plumbing, electrical, windows, doors, porch and more needed some serious work. If you look closely you can see how badly the porch was sagging as there was no structural support.<\/p>\n

Finishing the Remodel and Planning Out the Front Yard Curb Appeal Project<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s taken about six months and a lot of planning to get the remodel ready to focus on curb appeal. My biggest goal was adding a new wrap around porch. I wanted the porch to be a place where guests could relax and enjoy the outdoors. For the curb appeal project, we needed to paint the house, add a front door, shutters and decor for the porch. We also needed to put in a new walkway, fence and of course landscaping. The Home Depot was the perfect place to handle every one of these projects.<\/p>\n

Painting the Home<\/h3>\n

\"Adding<\/p>\n

I knew I wanted to paint our house white so we used PPG Timeless Pure White\/Base 1 Flat Exterior Paint with Primer.<\/strong><\/a> We used the large five-gallon containers as it was a big painting project. The paint went on so easily and I love the crisp, white color.<\/p>\n

\"Adding<\/p>\n

We also purchased Ekena Millwork Exterior Real Wood Pine Louvered Shutters<\/strong><\/a> and painted them black.<\/p>\n

Creating a Welcoming Entrance<\/h3>\n

\"Adding<\/p>\n

The first thing I chose for the entrance was the front door. I chose the Jeld-Wen Craftsman Six Lite Wood Front Door<\/strong><\/a> and added the Schlage Smart Door Lock<\/strong><\/a>. The door is the perfect style for our home and I love the light that comes in through the glass.<\/p>\n

The Schlage Smart Door Lock<\/strong><\/a> is perfect for a short-term rental because I can change the password for every renter.<\/p>\n

I shopped for planters<\/a> to go on the front porch on each side of the door. There were so many options to choose from.<\/p>\n

I chose these large Mayne-Fairfield Black Plastic Planters<\/strong><\/a> and love the Topiary Eugenia plants I found at my local Home Depot store.<\/p>\n

\"Adding<\/p>\n

Creating a Front Walkway<\/h3>\n

\"Adding<\/p>\n

I considered using concrete for the front walkway but found these RumbleStone Cafe Concrete Pavers<\/a>. They come in a lot of different sizes but I selected the 7\u201d x 3.5 size. We laid them in sand and I love how they look.<\/p>\n

Landscaping<\/h3>\n

\"Adding<\/p>\n

We laid St. Augustine sod<\/a> in the entire front yard and parkway strip.<\/p>\n

\"Adding<\/p>\n

I went shopping at The Home Depot and chose a lot of plants for the front flower beds.<\/p>\n

\"Adding<\/p>\n

I chose Texas Sage Silverado, Topiary Eugenia, Lantana Hybrid, Lily of the Nile and Lilyturf Silvery Sunproof. Also, I added Scotts Earthgrow Black Mulch<\/a> to help protect the plants from the Texas summer heat.<\/p>\n

Adding Decor on the Porch<\/h3>\n

I love the seating area on the front porch that we created with these Bradley Black Slat Patio Rocking Chairs<\/a>. They were easy to put together and look great with the Classic Stripes Decorative Pillows in Black and White<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I never would have imagined in a million years that our 100-year-old home with the sagging porch would look like this. It\u2019s been such a fun project and so wonderful working with The Home Depot to create curb appeal.<\/p>\n
