Brushes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 1: Prep the Wall<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-97259 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/dd296d27a7b093ea80c29934288464b3.jpg\" alt=\"Using a patch kit to repair nail holes in a wall\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-97260 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/0c8c3af868d89f53d98e36f9abd77d68.jpg\" alt=\"Patching imperfections in a wall\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before you start painting, you&#8217;ll want to patch any nail holes and wall imperfections using the patch repair kit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-97261 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/e4c9b764526152f912ee4c640a653b88.jpg\" alt=\"Taping off crown moulding before painting a wall\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, use painter&#8217;s tape to tape off baseboards, crown molding, window sills and doorways.<\/p>\n<p>Place drop cloths on your floor to protect it from paint drips and spills.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 2: Pour Three Shades of Paint<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-97263 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/5dda3702063dd54169f3eca0fd61ea72.jpg\" alt=\"Preparing paint for an ombre wall project\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To create the ombre effect, use three Behr paint colors: a dark color, a transitional color, and the base color (the lightest color).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-97264 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/20506606c7f130dbc0ec4a282e51ceb2.jpg\" alt=\"How to Paint an Ombre Wall\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 3: Paint the Base Color (the Lightest Paint Color)<\/h3>\n<p>Pour the base color into a roller tray with a liner.<\/p>\n<p>Paint the base color along the trim using an angled brush. Then use a roller to paint the base color over the entire wall.<\/p>\n<p>Once the paint has dried, use painter&#8217;s trim tape to make two straight horizontal lines to mark of the ombre sections.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 4: Paint the Ombre Effect<\/h3>\n<p>Mix paint extender in with the two ombre colors. This will increase amount of time you have to blend the paint colors on the wall.<\/p>\n<p>Pour these colors into two paint trays with liners. Then, use a roller to paint the transition and dark paint colors within their respective taped-off areas.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll want to do this fairly rapidly because you want the paint to be wet when you blend them for the ombre effect.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-97265 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/5a5673abcb82f8c5d0647f294a0a9970.jpg\" alt=\"How to Paint an Ombre Wall\" width=\"750\" height=\"1125\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before the ombre paint has dried, pull off the painter&#8217;s tape. Use two brushes&#8211; one for each of the ombre colors&#8211;to brush the paint into a rough gradient.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no secret trick to this. Just brush the ombre colors into their adjacent sections of the wall. You don&#8217;t have to be perfect with this.
