Homeowners spend quite a bit of time and money making the master bathroom a sanctuary but ignore the second bath altogether. I understand that. Admittedly, my 8-year-old twins are little mess machines. If you have young boys at home, you know how difficult it is to keep their bathroom clean. Cue the bleach spray.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103161 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/11e65102636029851f60447b4a5fe671-1.jpg\" alt=\"Gray Subway Tile\" width=\"750\" height=\"1159\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wanted to makeover my kids&#8217; bathroom and decided that covering the walls in gray subway tile would not only give the space some much needed style, but make clean-up a bit easier. I dreaded the mess and backbreaking work of traditional tile so I was excited to try peel and stick Smart Tiles. If the walls are dirty or dusty, it may affect how well the Smart Tiles adhere.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103165 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/7f82ad28a3d183d67240cff399c6cde9-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"498\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, I removed the switch plates and outlet covers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103166 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/175d1df58a27c781e9dfbda14328eb4b-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"992\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even though I live in a newer house, my walls aren&#8217;t perfectly straight. I measured a tile sheet to get the exact height.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103167 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/7f6ce7eb96cd56436452ed2a0075f891-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, I measured that distance up from the baseboard. I used a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/p\/Johnson-48-in-Structo-Cast-Standard-Level-7748-O\/100353832?cm_mmc=socialmedia%7Capronblog%7CD23F%7C000000%7CElishaAlbretsen%7C103150\">level<\/a> to draw a perfectly horizontal line. This is where I started my first course of gray subway tile.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103168 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/f9b2033f3116a57b90283d723a50b4fe-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"511\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I used a straight edge ruler to cut one end of my first sheet square and butted it up against the door casing. I peeled off the paper backing and placed the gray subway tile sheet on the wall, following the line I drew.\u00a0I made sure to rub the tiles firmly against the surface. Since I have textured walls, I had to pay special attention to working out any air bubbles. It was really easy, just like a big sticker.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103169 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/7c8b5857289e8e194e27aaba05c08329-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"493\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I found it easiest to work from left to right. One reason why <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/p\/Smart-Tiles-Metro-Grigio-11-56-in-W-x-8-38-in-H-Peel-and-Stick-Decorative-Mosaic-Wall-Tile-Backsplash-SM1064-1\/300492669?cm_mmc=socialmedia%7Capronblog%7CD23F%7C000000%7CElishaAlbretsen%7C103150\">Smart Tiles<\/a> look so realistic is because they have a thin overlapping border along the right edge. This allowed me to place the next sheet of tile slightly over the first, creating a seamless transition.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103170 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/c7e14729ffdc9ab88331dbec9f2950df-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was shocked how quickly the application went. I was able to cover all walls in this medium sized bathroom in one day, working by myself.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Hanging Decor on the Tile<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103171 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/feba29301e6a0496ecf73884c47ee77f-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"483\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was a little apprehensive about drilling holes in my beautiful new walls, so I decided to mount my picture frames using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/p\/Command-Large-Picture-Hanging-Strips-Value-Pack-6-Sets-of-Strips-17206-6ES\/205360679?cm_mmc=socialmedia%7Capronblog%7CD23F%7C000000%7CElishaAlbretsen%7C103150\">Command strips<\/a> instead of nails. They worked perfectly and I can move my decor around if I want to.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Completed Bathroom<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103172 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/8840de2a9c6a84370bc1a35777991434-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"457\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I spent another half of a day switching out the bath fixtures, faucet, and vanity light. In only one weekend, I have a whole new bathroom.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103173 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/2f3efaee48f7c416a00b228ca1325718-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"1136\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was a little worried that adding so much gray in a space with no natural light would make it seem cave-like. Luckily, the Smart Tiles are so glossy, they reflect tons of light and make it much brighter than the room would be with paint only.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103174 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/82e571d5dc95eed61383994f4ffaed47-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"501\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, Smart Tiles are water resistant so they hold up well to splashes and sprinkles. It&#8217;s really easy to wipe down the walls and clean up messes.<\/p>\n<p>Although they are peel and stick, these tiles look just like the real deal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-103175 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/homeimprovementblogs.com\/hg-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/746a9794f152137ace0525f0741f666b-1.jpg\" alt=\"gray subway tile \" width=\"750\" height=\"1110\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t believe I was able to add gorgeous gray subway tile to my walls with virtually no mess!
