Dining Room Updates for Easy Holiday Hosting

Growing up, whenever my family would have out of town guests, I remember my parents getting something new. It would usually be something that they had been wanting for awhile, but used the moment of hospitality to upgrade a room or two in the house. Sometimes it would be something as simple as new towels and sheets or something a bit more exciting like a new sofa or chair. So here I am, adulting, years later and doing the same thing. So now getting my home guest ready is somewhat nostalgic and at times a necessity to accommodate everyone!

The Home Depot is one of the best places to do all your updating during the holiday season. They have an AMAZING selection of furniture, lighting, dishes, cutlery and even small appliances. You name it, they have it! Who knew The Home Depot was so much more than lumber and tools! So when it came time to update my dining room space I knew they were the perfect one-stop shop to elevate my space.

Wondering how to update your own dining room and get it ready for the holiday season? Look below for some helpful and practical tips!

Light Up the Room

If you’re a hostess who lights up the room when you walk in then maybe you can skip the lighting upgrade! But if not, one of the easiest ways to update any room in your home is with light. Most rooms we live in lack the correct lighting and believe me, lighting changes everything. In our dining room and easy switch to a more modern light and lamps gave our dining room some real personality! In-store you will find a great selection of ready to install lighting but online you will and even bigger selection like this Marcel light from Troy Lighting.

Two gold and marble lamps on a double buffet adds to the ambiance and keeps the rooms symmetric theme! For late night chats after dinner, candle light is a must! Tealights and votives are easy and are perfect for a long table!

Have a Seat

Dining room equals sharing a meal and without a table and chairs that’s hard to do! Most of us have room to dine with 4-6 people which is perfect for everyday dining. But when you add multiple guests, dining together can get complicated! This Parquetry French Grey Extendable Dining Table from the The Home Decorators Collection, solves that problem by seating up to 12 people! During the year when you’re not entertaining this table is about 80 inches, but when it’s time to invite more to the table, this super star table opens up…

And extends to 122 inches!

I added my 12 of my favorite Hyde Ash Grey Wood Dining Chairs that gives the space a traditional french/farmhouse look without breaking the bank.

Serving

One of my favorite upgrades in the room is the idea of using two buffets and making it one long one. This makes for the PERFECT space to spread out your entire dinner. These two sideboards from the Home Decorators Collection features glass cabinets to feature and store all of your heirloom serving pieces, glasses, napkins and even drawers for your knives and silverware.

Turkey, dressing and all of the sides can sit right next to the table. Or if you’re not hosting a big crowd for Thanksgiving, maybe this is the perfect spot to serve up bread and soup for a small group of friends! Using small appliances like the Cuisinart Slow Cooker helps keep your food nice and hot and ready to serve!

Holiday Touches

It doesn’t matter if it’s Christmas or Thanksgiving or a combination of both. Small touches here and there add so much warmth and whimsy to your everyday space when you intentionally dress it up for the holidays.

I chose to use natural elements from the outdoors down the table to bring in some holiday spirit. You can do the same thing by grabbing some of your favorite trimmings from your oak, olive, magnolia or any tree you have outdoors. The foliage acts as a centerpiece and keeps conversation flowing across the table.

You can also add wreaths like this one from HomeDepot.com  to the back of the table! I love how it instantly says fall by keeping the emphasis on color and feather details, without going overboard!

Are you ready for an upgrade this holiday season? Make sure you shop Home Depot and HomeDepot.com first as you update your space this year! Your guests will love you for it!
