Doing laundry can be a chore. But Lexy Ward, of the blog PROPER, found a way to get excited about it. Read on to find out how Lexy gave her laundry room a tile makeover with peel and stick tiles!
Laundry Room Tile Makeover with Smart Tiles
After moving into our new house, we knew there would be some updates needed throughout. There are the big projects, like painting all the walls a new color. Then there are those updates that you can finish in a weekend, like tiling a new backsplash! In this case, we tiled a whole wall! No grout, no backer board, no stress.
Before The Update
The laundry room wasn’t too bad before, but the cream walls and beige counter tops just weren’t in line with the vision we have for the rest of the house. Let’s take a look at some before pictures!
Not horrible, but definitely blah.
Materials
Getting started
We started by removing the cabinet fronts and painting them using Behr Marquee in a satin finish in the color “WHITE – BLW14”. It’s a great white that works with tons of appliances and accents, while pulling both warm and cool depending on what you decorate with. We painted the cabinets, the three walls we weren’t tiling and around the trim and window sill, so the tile would be surrounded with white.
Peel and stick tiles
We went with the Hexagon Travertino tiles, as I’m a bit obsessed with hexagon tiles. The grey against the white looks fantastic! These tiles are super easy to install. They’re basically large stickers that can be trimmed with a blade or cut with scissors for special edge cuts.
It’s easy to measure around outlets and place the tiles directly onto the wall using Smart Tiles installation videos as a guide!
Stained Pine Shelf
After 24 hours, the tiles were in place and it was time to install a small shelf halfway up the wall. We added a large plank of stained pine to cover the gap between the appliances and the wall to add a visual break for accessories, like baskets and a small bowl of detergent pods. It was easy to install by drilling pocket holes with screws into the studs for security. It’s a heavy piece of wood!
Gold cabinet pulls were the perfect accent to give the cabinets a fresh and clean look, and of course, plants abound because I’m a plant lover!
Laundry Room Reveal
We absolutely love how our new laundry room tile makeover looks! It was a quick and easy update that actually made me want to do laundry. Who knew that was possible?
