When we first moved into our new house last summer, there were a lot of things we needed to do as the first owners of a new construction home. One of those things included putting in hardscape and landscaping. We have a small patio area that is off of the family room. We kept the design simple with pavers and wanted to add greenery in planters and pots. A space that felt cozy, that was a perfect hang-out spot for entertaining, and matched our modern style of decor! I was so excited when The Home Depot asked me to participate in their 2019 Patio Style Challenge.
Since becoming homeowners, The Home Depot has been our go-to place for all of our home repair or DIY needs. With the help of Home Depot, I was able to transform our simple and basic patio, into a cozy, outdoor oasis! We are so excited to create lots of memories out here with family and friends, listen to good music and eat good BBQ!
The Patio Furniture
For the main outdoor furniture, I chose the Hampton Bay Laguna Point 5- Piece Brown All-Weather Wicker Outdoor Sectional set. I loved this sectional set right away because it offers that close, cozy feel that I wanted for our guests. I loved the idea of being able to lay out here and relax with Alex, and this sectional offers room for that. Since we will be having lots of little ones and friends over, I decided to go with a grey color cushion and blue pillows to hide any dirt. The cushion color I chose is called “Pewter.”
This outdoor sectional set is amazing quality and will last through all types of weather, season after season. I loved the hand-woven wicker look, and it has been super easy to clean and maintain! This set also came with the coffee table which doubles as storage. We can store Kennedy’s toys inside there easily when guests come over which is so convenient!

And the “After”
The Outdoor Rug
One of my must-have items I wanted was an outdoor rug! It totally gave this space a “room-like” feel. I chose the Home Decorators Collection Messina Beige Outdoor Rug. I love the simple design, and the color is a perfect neutral for this space. It would go with any color cushions you have! I love how great it makes our feet feel, so we can kick off our shoes and relax out there.
The Greenery
I loved picking out plants and flowers to finish off our patio! We spent one Saturday morning looking at all the beautiful plants at the Home Depot’s Garden Center. Kennedy loved helping us too! They have helpful staff and everything we need from potting soil, planter boxes and pots, shovels, etc.
We chose a mix of flowers, trees, and succulents! I got these planter boxes and put bouganvilla in them. The colors are gorgeous and they will do fine in the Southern California heat this summer. We also got a lemon and lime tree because a) we are obsessed with lemons and limes and use them everyday, so why not grow them ourselves, b) love the look of them, especially out on the patio! I also had my little helper pick out the cutest little succulents to plant in this white ceramic modern planter box. I also got a beautiful pre-made succulent arrangement too!
The Garden Stool and Lantern
Garden stools not only add some dimension to a patio but are very functional as well. You can use them to set snacks, drinks or small plants on! I got this white Safavieh Garden Stool and I am obsessed. It gives the patio a modern feel, and bright, fresh pop to brighten everything up. I love using it to set drinks on or succulents. I also got this Hampton Bay Wood and Metal Outdoor Lantern which is such a beautiful accent and adds character to the space.
The White Fence
This is where my hubby’s handy DIY skills came to good use. I wasn’t crazy about the dark brown cinder block wall the patio area backed up to. I wanted something to really match our outdoor style, make it more modern, and brighten up the space. Adding an accent wall did just that! It also provides texture, additional privacy with increased height, and the option to hang planter boxes or vines on it in the future.
The Grill
What’s an outside patio without a BBQ?! It was a no brainer when deciding which BBQ we wanted. The Traeger Pro 575 is the best in class when deciding on a BBQ. Not only are you able to use it to grill steaks, but it can also be used as an oven. You can cook homemade pizzas, pies, cookies, etc! My hubby and I are most excited to start making homemade pizza this summer! A grilling game changer is the Traeger “WiFire” technology this comes equipped with. We can connect the grill to our smartphones, and check the temperature anytime and anywhere!
Overall, we are so excited about the turnout of our outdoor oasis. The patio set, the grill and the finishing touches from Home Depot helped us to create the ultimate entertaining area, perfect for our friends and growing family.
