Choosing The Right Laundry Appliances

The laundry room is arguably one of the most important parts of any house. Brooke Ulrich of All Things Thrifty recently moved into her new home and knew the first thing she had to tackle was her laundry room.

Check out the selections Brooke picked out for her home and 6 features that were important to her.

Choosing The Right LG Laundry Appliances

As a mom of four kids, laundry should be a friend instead of an enemy. In our house, laundry is definitely endless {because, well, life and clothes}. With our large busy family of six, we have girls in dance three days a week, boys in baseball three days a week, and gym-going parents. Plus, we love outdoor water sports so we go through tons of towels in the summer too! Plus, that doesn’t even include school clothes, pajamas, and work clothes. Goodness gracious, we are a laundry factory.

After searching on The Home Depot Website for the perfect washer and dryer, we decided a LG washer and dryer double set was the perfect choice for us. We chose:

We had contemplated a double set for several years, but since we moved recently into a new home, now was the time to pull the trigger. Our new laundry room was now roomy enough to handle two sets. Plus, with the LG washer’s capacity that is dearly double what our old one was, this will speed up the process of laundry and save a ton of precious time.

Since we had researched new appliances for awhile, we finally decided on this set for six main reasons.

1. The HUGE 5.2 cu. ft. capacity.

The size was definitely the biggest selling point. Our old washer had a 3.5 cu. ft. capacity, and our new ones have 5.2 cu. ft. capacity. With two washers, we just went from 3.5 cu. ft. to 10.4 cu. ft. laundry capacity. We basically TRIPLED our laundry efficiency.

2. The appliances have great ratings.

Ratings mean a lot to me and this set has 4.4 out of 5 stars on over 300 ratings on the Home Depot website. I appreciate the opinions of others who have used them, and it gives me peace of mind when making such a big decision.

3. The sets are stackable.

Since we decided on two appliance sets, we needed a set that was stackable in order to fit them both into our laundry space.

4. They have a steam option.

I love that both the washer and dryer have a steam option. I specifically am excited about the steam in the dryer because we don’t iron much in this family. So, steaming something quickly to remove wrinkles is extremely convenient. I love that the product description says “True steam technology generates real steam to reduce wrinkles and odors, practically eliminating the need for ironing.” That sentence speaks deep to my soul as a mother.

5. They look great.

The set looks great! I love the dark graphite steel color, and they have a modern shape and look.

6. They have Turbo Wash® and ENERGY STAR

Turbo Wash® is a feature that saves 30 minutes per load, and can be used on BIG loads too. Most washers including our old set could only do a small quick load. Turbo Wash® is great for those last minute, “I forgot to wash my baseball pants” situations. Plus, since these appliances are High Efficiency and ENERGY STAR, they use a ton less power and water than our old set did.

We ordered the sets and waited patiently for the day of delivery. But in the mean time, our laundry room needed some adjusting to get ready for the double sets.
This is what the laundry room looked like when we moved in:

It’s a roomy space with plenty of potential. In the next few months, I plan to overhaul this room. Here is our master plan:

We have already added the double sets, so phase one of the master plan is officially complete.

In order to have two sets of appliances, we had to add a second drain, another gas line, another set of water hookups and also move the vents to new locations. It was a bit of a process and for more information on what we did, you can check out that article on All Things Thrifty.

Overall, we are ecstatic with our choice for these appliances. I washed 5 loads of laundry this week instead of our usual 10-12. I think that deserves celebrating! Thanks LG for being an advocate for a busy Mom and family!
